Using the Verizon Messages (Message+) app on your phone, tablet, computer or the web will automatically subscribe you to the Integrated Messaging service. You can also sign up for Integrated Messaging on the web by signing in to My Verizon from the My Messaging page and clicking Go to Web App.
The Messages App on your Mac allows you to receive and send unlimited iMessages to anyone using an Apple device. Additionally, the Messages App on your Mac can also be setup to send and receive carrier supported SMS Text Messages to those who are not using Apple devices.
Send SMS Text Messages On Mac
Your Mac does not have a SIM card and it cannot be classified as a phone or mobile device by any stretch of imagination. However, the Mac can still be setup to send and receive SMS and MMS Messages by linking it to an iPhone with a Cellular Plan.
This is made possible by the operating system on your Mac (MacOS) which is capable of linking Mac to your iPhone, whenever a common Apple ID is used on both devices. Due to this linkage, the two devices know when they are on the same network together, making it possible to send and receive SMS Text Messages on a non-cellular device like Mac.
Although, your Mac appears to be sending and receiving SMS Text Messages, it is actually your iPhone which is sending and receiving SMS Text Messages using its Cellular Plan.
Mac Messages App Not Using My Cell Number Free
However, for all practical purposes, sending and receiving text messages on Mac will feel the same (if not better) as doing it on an iPhone.
Steps to Send and Receive SMS Text Messages On Mac
In order to setup your Mac to send and receive SMS and MMS messages, you will need an iPhone with a Cellular plan. Also, you need to make sure that you are signed into your iCloud Account, both on iPhone and Mac using the same Apple ID.
1. On your Mac, click on the Apple logo and then click on System Preferences option in the drop-down menu.
2. Next, click on the iCloud option in the System Preferences Window.
3. On the Next Screen, login to your iCloud Account by entering your Apple ID and Password (in case you are not already logged in).
4. You may see a popup on your iPhone informing you about your Apple ID and Phone number being used on a new Mac.
After making sure that you are logged into your iCloud Account on Mac, go to your iPhone and confirm that you are logged into your iCloud Account with the same Apple ID.
1. From the Home Screen of your iPhone, tap on Settings.
2. On the Settings screen, scroll down and tap on iCloud.
3. On the next screen, make sure that you are logged into iCloud with the same Apple ID as used on your Mac.
After confirming that you are signed into iCloud on both devices using the same Apple ID, follow the steps below to set up text message forwarding on your iPhone:
1. Open the Messages App on your Mac by clicking on the Messages icon in the Taskbar.
Leave the Messages App open on your Mac (required to receive a security code) and get back to your iPhone to complete the following steps.

2. Open the Settings app on your iPhone
3. On the Settings screen, scroll down and tap on Messages.
4. On the Messages screen, tap on Text Message Forwarding (See image below)
5. On the next screen, you will see a list of Apple devices linked to your Apple ID under “Allow these devices to send and Receive Text Messages from this iPhone”. Turn on the option to Send and Receive Text Messages for your Mac (See image below).
6. Next, you will see a popup on your iPhone, prompting you to enter a verification code as shown on your Mac, in order to allow iPhone text messages to be sent and received on your Mac.
7. Enter the Verification Code (As it appears on your Mac – See image below) and tap on Allow. (See image above)
Now, whenever anyone sends a text message to you (your iPhone), you will be able to access the Message on your Mac and also reply to the text Message from your Mac.
Set up your phone number
On your iPhone:
Go to Settings > Messages and make sure that iMessage is on. You might need to wait a moment for it to activate.
Tap Send & Receive. If you see “Use your Apple ID for iMessage,” tap it and sign in with the same Apple ID that you use on your Mac, iPad, and iPod touch.
In the 'You can receive iMessages' section, make sure that your phone number and Apple ID are selected.
Go to Settings > FaceTime and make sure that your phone number and Apple ID are selected in the 'You can be reached by FaceTime at' section.
On your other devices, you can now turn on the phone number that you just set up:
If you use this feature and share your Apple ID with someone, you can't prevent them from seeing your conversations. Instead of using the same Apple ID as someone else, set up Family Sharing.
Remove your phone number
If you don't want calls or messages for your iPhone on your iPad, iPod touch, or Mac, you can remove your phone number. There are two ways to do this:
On your iPhone, go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive. Select your Apple ID and tap Sign Out. Then go to Settings > FaceTime, select your Apple ID and tap Sign Out.
If the phone number that you want to remove belongs to an iPhone that you can't access, change your Apple ID password. This removes all phone numbers from your iPad, iPod touch, and Mac. Calls or messages for the removed numbers won't appear on those devices anymore.

Turn your phone number on or off for your Mac
After you set up your phone number, you can turn it on or off for Messages and FaceTime on your Mac.
Open Messages or FaceTime. If asked, sign in with the Apple ID that you're using with Messages and FaceTime on your iPhone.
For Messages, choose Messages > Preferences, then click Accounts and select your iMessage account. For FaceTime, choose FaceTime > Preferences, then click Settings.
Turn your phone number on or off:
To turn on your phone number, select it and your Apple ID in the list. If you don't see your phone number, get help with your settings or contact Apple Support. If you see a number that isn't yours, change your Apple ID password.
To turn off your phone number, deselect it in the list.
If you want recipients to see your phone number and not your Apple ID, select your phone number from the “Start new conversations from” or ”Start new calls from” pop-up menu.

After you set up your phone number, you can turn it on or off for Messages and FaceTime on your iPad or iPod touch.
Mac Messages App Not Using My Cell Numbers
For Messages, go to Settings > Messages and make sure that iMessage is on. If asked, sign in with the Apple ID you're using with Messages and FaceTime on your iPhone. Then tap Send & Receive.
For FaceTime, go to Settings > FaceTime. If asked, sign in with the Apple ID that you're using with Messages and FaceTime on your iPhone.
Turn your phone number on or off:
To turn on your phone number, select it and your Apple ID in the “You can be reached” section. If you don't see your phone number, get help with your settings or contact Apple Support. If you see a number that isn't yours, change your Apple ID password.
To turn off your phone number, uncheck it.

If you can't see or select your number in Messages or FaceTime
Make sure that you're using the latest software for your Mac or iOS device.
Make sure that you correctly followed the iPhone steps to set up your phone number. You should be using the same Apple ID on all of your devices.
In the “You can be reached” section of Messages and FaceTime settings, make sure that there are checkmarks beside your phone number and Apple ID:
If your phone number is unchecked and you can't select it, or you have some other issue, follow these steps:
On your Mac:
In Messages, choose Messages > Preferences, then click Accounts and select your iMessage account. Click Sign Out.
In FaceTime, choose FaceTime > Preferences, then click Sign Out.
On your iPhone, iPad, and iPod:
Go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive. Tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
Go to Settings > FaceTime. Tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
On your iPhone:
Go back to Settings > Messages and make sure that iMessage is turned on.
Tap Send & Receive, then choose “Use your Apple ID for iMessage” and sign in with your Apple ID.
Using the same Apple ID, sign back in to Messages and FaceTime on your other devices.
If you still need help, change your Apple ID password and repeat the setup steps. If that doesn't work, contact Apple Support.
